MESSAGEWORKS NEW FEATURES Commercial Version 3.0a ======================= All the features of the unregistered version, plus: 1. Free technical support and notification of updates. 2. Single-user and 5- to 100-user network versions available. 3. Allows up to 99,999 messages and 8,000 R-dex records per directory. 4. No nag screens or "unregistered" text in window titlebar. 5. MessageWorks can easily be configured to automatically delete old messages from your individual message file or even from the main message file (optional). 6. The new Callee Locator feature displays another user's location at any time (i.e., out to lunch, on vacation, in a meeting until 2:15, contact at a different phone or pager number, etc.) (network version only). 7. In addition to sending messages normally via MessageWorks, you can also send messages via Microsoft Mail (if Mail is installed on your PC and the recipient's PC) for users who don't use MessageWorks. A copy of the message is also stored in the main message file. (The Locator feature is not available if the user is not using MessageWorks). 9. For users that have their telephone on the same line as their modem, MessageWorks can dial the telephone automatically. Simply click on the label for any phone number field, click Dial, pick the headset, and MessageWorks does the rest for you! 10. The ability to forward messages to another person has been added to the Message Read window. Simply click the Forward button and choose one or more people to send the message to. The name of the original recipient and time of the original message is automatically added to the Message Log field. Unregistered Version 3.0a (1/95) ================================ 1. In addition to sending the same message to more than one person by holding Shift while sending, multiple names can now be selected from the pop-up Callee dialog box (hold down Shift to select a range of names or hold down Control to select multiple individual names). 2. A new field, Misc Info, has been added to the R-dex caller information file for storing such information as E-mail address, home address, or anything else you might want to remember about a caller. 3. The pop-up Caller dialog box can now display names sorted by last name or first name (you choose which way it is diaplyed in the Preferences dialog box). Also, MessageWorks automatically matches what you type in the Caller listbox (similar to the automatic matching in the From field). 4. You can now read messages for all users simply by holding down Shift when clicking Read instead of selecting Read Messages for All Users from the Preferences dialog box (if your installation has the capability of reading all messages). 5. The R-dex files and messages can be stored on different drives or directories if desired. 6. A new option, Find Next, has been added to the search dialog box. This take you to directly to the first record matching a search without searching the rest of the data file. 7. A browse feature has been added to the Data File location dialog box (and also to the installation program). This allows you to select a drive and directory with the mouse instead of having to key it in. 8. Matching of names in the From field when taking a message is no longer case-sensitive. 9. When reading messages, the number of new messages and the total number of messages is displayed on the screen at all times. 10. You can now customize the colors that MessageWorks uses for the main message window, the Message Read window, and the R-dex window. 11. The online help uses graphics with hotspots for even easier navigation. 12. The import/export feature is now enabled in the unregistered version. Import/export can be cancelled and does not tie up the entire computer. 13. The sound associated with the Exclamation event is played every time a new message is received instead of just when the first new message is received (network version only). 14. Fixed bug that prevented accelerator keys from working (Ctrl+P, Ctrl+T from main window); new accelerator keys added for new functions. 15. For large R-dex files, filling of the caller information listbox in the Caller pop-up dialog box can now be canceled by the user. 16. When a name that exists more than once in the R-dex is typed in the From field when taking a message, the Caller pop-up dialog is only filled with caller information for the identical name (instead of filling with all callers and hilighting the first matching name), resulting in much greater performance. NOTE: If you are upgrading from version 2 of MessageWorks, your R-dex and message files will be converted for use with version 3 the first time you run the new version. If installed on a network, make sure to upgrade all workstations to version 3, because older versions are unable to read the new file format. Unregistered Version 2.11 (8/94) ================================ New features in MessageWorks 2.11 since version 2.0: INSTALLATION 1. Installation program no longer requires the VBRUN300.DLL run-time library. 2. If installing the program files on a network, you can select Configure Workstation Only after the first installation. This causes the setup program to create configuration and icon files on the local machine without copying the files again unnecessarily. This will also prevent sharing violations when installing onto a network while other users are using MessageWorks. 3. Added an option to automatically run MessageWorks at startup if desired. MESSAGEWORKS 1. Added Message Log field to messages when viewing in Read window. This allows notes to be attached to a message that has already been taken. This new field can also can be searched and it prints on the message report. 2. If MessageWorks is already running, the current instance of MessageWorks is activated instead of loading a second copy of the program into memory when the MessageWorks icon is double-clicked in Program Manager. 3. The network version only allows messages to be sent to other users who have installed and run MessageWorks. This prevents sending a message that is never delivered because of misspelling a name, etc. 4. Added scroll bar to the Notes field in the Message Read window and to the Call Screening Response field in the R-dex window to allow longer input. 5. Allows sending of the same message to more than one person by holding the Shift key down when clicking Send. 6. Simplified entry of multiple callers in the R-dex with similar information by holding Shift when clicking New. The record is saved but only the Name field is cleared. 7. Allows canceling of search and delete functions after they have been started. Also, MessageWorks does not tie up the whole system when searching or deleting. 8. Added two help options on Help menu (Search and Help on Help). 9. Added context-sensitive help, which is available at any time by pressing F1 or by clicking the Help button in any dialog box. 10. Added an option to choose whether the Enter key is captured by an edit control or if it acts like the Tab key (move to next control). This option is changed in File Preferences. 11. Added an option to select whether the hyphen SmartFILL features (used in telephone fields) feature is active. This saves time when entering numbers with area code and prefix, but it can now be turned off when entering international or local numbers (this option is also found in File Preferences). 12. The setting of the 'Read Messages for All Users' control in File Preferences is now saved from session to session. 13. Since MessageWorks message files are now only kept open when reading messages (previously the main message file was open whenever a copy MessagesWorks was running), file sharing errors when deleting all messages will only occur if other users are reading the main message file. 14. Added microscroll controls for message check delay in File Preferences and the row and column edit controls in the Label Print function. 15. The sound assigned to the Windows Exclamation event is now played when a network user receives a message (if system sounds are enabled). 16. Uses the new 3-D look for all controls when running in VGA mode or higher. NOTE: The changes made to MessageWorks since version 2.0 required that an expanded file format be used. If you already use version 2.0, your data files will be converted to the new format automatically the first time you run version 2.11 and take or read a message. Make sure to upgrade all workstations with the new version, because version 2.0 is unable to read the new file format.
